Hi Everyone!

Today I’m here to talk about sleeping babies.  As parent’s, we all want one, but we don’t always get one.  My daughter had been having a lot of issues sleeping so we decided to make a change.  A few weeks ago we switched out my daughter’s old crib mattress with the Newton Crib Mattress and noticed quite the difference.

I did receive the Newton Crib Mattress at no expense to me in exchange for this review.  This does not influence my opinion of the mattress and all opinions expressed in this post are 100% my own.

Features of the Newton Crib Mattress

So, first things first.  What makes this mattress so fancy?

It’s Breathable:

Like shove your face in it and take a deep breath effortlessly breathable!

When my daughter was born I was absolutely terrified of her not being able to breath when she sleeps.  What if my new baby magically learns to roll over in the middle of the night while I’m asleep?! (because every newborn can do that right?!)

Don’t even get me started on when she actually did learn to roll over. I’m fairly certain she started training in sleep tumbling right around that time too.  She never would stay in one place and always ended up in the strangest positions.

This led to many (even more sleepless) sleepless nights for me. Constantly checking the monitor, like I was trying to find Waldo in one of his photos.  Hindsight, I do think I *may* have been a little over the top checking the monitor.  I would be laying there just about to fall asleep.  Then I would think I might have heard her possibly make a slight movement.  That meant I had to grab the monitor and stare at it intently until I was convinced she was perfectly fine.

My theory is and always has been ‘Better safe than sorry’ and I still stand by that theory.  It’s also why I love the breath-ability feature of the Newton Crib Mattress.  All of my terrified “what-ifs” that constantly ran through my head could have been eased with a breathable mattress because you can literally breath through the mattress!

When I first got the crib I immediately wanted to see how truly ‘breathable’ it was.  So I put my face on the mattress and much to my surprise I could take in a deep breath effortlessly.  I was so shocked I called my mom, ranting and raving about how awesome it was for about 15 minutes.

It’s honestly crazy how easy it is to breathe through the mattress.

No Off-gassing

It’s Greenguard Gold Certified.  This means it’s free of chemicals and toxins and has no off-gassing.  This was another huge plus for me.  My daughter’s previous mattress was an organic one.  So having the chemical and toxin free feature was important to me.

I don’t even use harsh chemicals around my home so I certainly do not want my daughter sleeping on a mattress that has them.

Completely Washable

It really is.  Now fitting into the washing machine… that’s the hard part.

I’m kidding.

The mattress covering itself zips off and can go in the washing machine while the core of the mattress can be sprayed down.  This is fantastic because kids have accidents.  No matter what you do – they always manage to have accidents.  With the mattress being completely washable, it means you don’t need to have a sheet or mattress protector on it (this would negate the breath-ability factor).

Our previous crib mattress was not washable (at all).  We had to have a mattress protector on it otherwise accidents would leak through.  Before my daughter arrived, I didn’t even think a mattress protector was necessary. In my head, I thought, I would obviously change her before it got THAT bad…

Let’s just chalk that one up to Pregnancy Brain right there and have a good laugh.

After the first time a leak happened we got a protector.  That didn’t prevent the hours, and I mean hours, I spent scrubbing and cleaning the mattress because of that leak.  This is why the ability to zip off the cover and spray down the body of the mattress is so appealing to me.  You KNOW that everything it completely clean this way.

Another Huge plus for the Newton Crib Mattress.

 

Maximum Airflow

Now I know what you’re thinking. So what?! Because that’s exactly what I thought initially.

This little tidbit, that didn’t seem like a super big deal at first, is something I think is helping my daughter sleep longer.

When you think about it logically it does make a lot of sense.   With how breathable the mattress is, obviously there will be more airflow within the mattress.  This will help regulate your body temperate throughout the night.  Which in turn can help you sleep longer.

My daughter, for the longest time, would wake up at 5 in the morning.  Like clockwork.   I would have to change her, maybe get her some water or milk, and set her back down to sleep some more.  If there was one thing I could count on – it was my 5 am wake up call.

I kid you not – the first night my daughter slept on this mattress she slept through the entire night.

My first thought was that I had just got lucky, that was all.  Then, she slept through the next night, and the next.  She slept through the night the entire first week being on this mattress.  Since we changed the mattress she has only woke up at 5am twice (both on nights when teething was a problem most of the day.  Those pesky molars.).

I can’t say that this mattress will make your baby sleep through the night, everyone’s different.  I can only comment on my experiences and we have noticed a positive change in how long my daughter sleeps since making the switch.

 

Overall Thoughts on the Newton Crib Mattress

I cannot sing the praises of this mattress enough.  I can say with complete confidence that when we have another baby we will be getting another one of these mattresses.  There are a lot of other features that I didn’t even mention, like how light it is (11lbs), that just up the ante on how happy I am with this mattress.  If you are looking into mattress for your newborn, baby, or toddler I would HIGHLY recommend this one.
