Today I am talking about something I only recently started doing and immediately fell in love with. It’s called laundry stripping, or in this particular case, stripping the sheets. I have the laundry stripping recipe I use below!
Has any tried to strip their sheets before?
I recently did for the first time and I have to say, I was shocked at how dirty my freshly washed sheets ended up being. By the time I was done with soaking them the water was visibly dirty, and I had started with freshly washed sheets!
It is something I have added to my cleaning rotation a few times a year.
BUUTT, If you’re like I was when I first heard about it, I’m sure you have questions! Hopefully you will find your answers here along with a super easy laundry stripping recipe that I use!

What does Stripping the sheets do?
It’s basically a DEEP clean of your sheets that gets rid of the buildup of the body oils and dirt that the normal wash doesn’t get out.
Why should you strip your sheets?
This helps get rid of stains that you thought may have set. Plus it’s just a good deep cleaning method for something that you spend a good chunk of the day sleeping on.
What will I need?
You will need a powder laundry detergent, this is the one that I use. Liquid detergent won’t work the same as the powder one will in this situation. Borax – this is the one that I use – and finally a laundry booster – this is the one that I use.
How to strip your sheets | Laundry Stripping Recipe
Whenever you decided to do this start it first thing in the morning, because it is an all day process. It’s not that you have to be super involved with it all day, but more that the soaking step is a lengthy one.
Step 1: Start by washing your sheets on a normal cycle.
Step 2: Prepare the bathtub (you can use a top loading washing machine if you have one). Fill the tub up with hot water and then add the laundry stripping recipe below.
¼ cup Borax
¼ cup Laundry Booster
Step 3: Take your “clean” sheets from the washing machiene and put them in the tub to soak for 5-6 hours. Make sure you come back and mix/stir it around during this time to make sure it’s really getting a proper soak.
Step 4: Once they have soaked drain the water, ring them out and throw them into the washing machine again for a rinse and spin cycle.
Step 5: Dry them and put on the bed!
That is it! Simple Enough right?!
What did I think?
I was completely and utterly shocked at how dirty my freshly cleaned sheets were! I honestly was. After I put them back on the bed they were noticeably softer and just felt clean. You know that exciting feeling of freshly cleaned sheets, or is that just me?!
There was a super satisfying feeling that had me searching for other laundry items to deep clean like this too!
Have you tried this method of deep cleaning your sheets and laundry? Let me know how it turned out in the comments!
